re: Octane Booster

say 'snake oil' if you want to but- if you add 91 octane gas to 87 octane gas in equal amounts , you get 89 octane . Well , octane "booster" is made from JET FUEL ( read the label ) . Adding a little bitty bottle to a 30 gallon tank isn't going to do much , but 2 bottles in a 13 gallon tank sure will .
I just drove a 1976 Winnebago 2,700 miles and used only premium gas. I also added carb/injector cleaner or octane booster with every fill up .
I started off getting 6 -6.5 MPG's and by the end of the trip it was up to 8-9 MPG's . Believe me , when that's all you're getting and you're going that far - you pay attention to stuff like that .
I don't know if the additives yeilded the extra mileage , but something sure did .

Which is what?...basically kerosene, but it sounds so high tech to say it's made from jet fuel .

I didn't realize kerosene was 110 octane . Like I said , say snake oil if you want , but I have had a positive experience with the stuff . How 'bout you ? The O.P. was looking for peoples opinions on the octane booster, besides , the back of the bottle didn't say "made from kerosene" it said jet fuel .
so there.

re: Octane Booster

I've seen ones that claim to, "raise your octane by 10 points*." And at the very bottom, it says, "*Each "point" equals 0.1 octane points." So the whole bottle will take you from 93 to 94 octane.

DUDE , a whole bottle of that "104" stuff will only raise the octane by 1/10 of a percent--what a waste of money!!! . go buy a gallon of toluene at the paint store and dump that in your tank before you fill up--now that will raise your octane.

OR, just don't floor the gas, then you don't need octane.

nobody ever mentions it here, but you could drive around with a 13-1 compression engine on regular gas just fine if you were soft on the gas pedal.
detonation only comes into play at full throttle, you could probably drive around on monkey piss if you just pushed the gas pedal 1/10th of the way down.

Take a pill , the comment was not directed at you. The comment was the bogus claim that it is made from Jet fuel which is kerosene. As mentioned, it will not raise your octane by any appreciable amount.

i totally agree with 302 Z28, jet fuel has no octane, jet engines just burn stuff, they are like deisels. kerosene might have an octane rating of about 20, MAYBE 20.. put it in your tank if you want to... i won't be putting kerosene in any of my gas tanks---i like my engines and don't want to detonate them to death...

I wasn't offended , and hope you weren't either. That'll teach me to post before the coffee kicks in .
Honestly , that's one of my favorite things about this site , the schoolin' you can pick up . Consider me schooled. I had no earthly idea that jet fuel is kerosene . I did gain gas mileage using the stuff though. dang near a 20% increase over the course of 6 days of driving. Go figure.

re: Octane Booster

The only real octane booster that was worth anything was the old Morsoso stuff that came on a big blue 1 gallon can. the main ingredient was Aniline and toluene and Xeleyne + a bit of Acetone to keep it all mixed.
Worked not too bad. Was removed from the market a long long time ago as Aniline is too toxic.

The most cost effective way to really boost a tank of unleaded pump gas is to mix in 110+ unleaded racing gas or Ethanol and/or Toluene. A bit of acetone helps it mix in with the pump gas.
20 to 50% by volume, depending on how much octane gain, you need.
If you go much more than 20% make sure your fuel system is paint thinner friendly.
If you need to spike your gas with more than 50% just buy unleaded race gas.

Save the little bottles of 104+ for your Mini bike.
