Poor mans trans flush

I've been trying to keep up with all three vehicles on trans services. I drain the pan then remove the top cooler line on the radiator. I run a long piece of 3/8" hose into a gallon can. Fill the trans with 4 quarts with 4 more standing by. Start it up and as the can fills, I add more. It never seems to look any better, even after adding a total of 8 more quarts. Does this not really work that well? Is it all just mixing up as its running and not really pumping out all the dirty stuff but more of it all just mixed together?

Mark

Ok, where are all the tranny guys? Tony? Briscoe? Jakeshoe? Airworld? Must be a trans convention in Vegas.

re: Poor mans trans flush

well, I have a day job.... . 45 minute to 1 hour commute home...gotta eat usually.

plan on 14 - 18 quarts of oil to get the red stuff coming out the line... some trans more , some less.

Jake is in Iraq , the last I heard.

Wow, that's a lot of fluid!! One is a 350, one a 400 and one a 700. Guess i'll stick to just changing what's in the pan,,,,a little more often. Plus I have the Magnafine filters on each too. Sure miss the old Fords and Mopars with the converter drain!

re: Poor mans trans flush

Rather than just disconnecting one line and filling through the neck, you could try disconnecting both lines to the cooler - put the input into a container of fresh fluid and the output to catch what comes out.

Then run it until what's coming out looks like what's coming in.

You seem to think one line is pressure and the line is sucking fluid in.. that is not the cooler system on a trans operates.
