Wheel spacer solution - comments?
On my 34 Ford with Mustang II front suspension I have wheels with very much backspacing (16x7,5" rims with 4,5" backspacing).
This made them hitting the A-arms on the suspension, so I made a set of 3/4" spacers out of aluminium, changed to long ARP wheel studs on the rotors and then it turned out nice. No spacers at the rear wheels. Comments on this solution? |

re: Wheel spacer solution - comments?
sounds ok, I did this on a S10 to use a LOW back spacing wheel (it was hitting the caliper bracket)
As long as your studs are long enough to catch as many threads as their diameter, your fine. I probly would put 3/4 spacers on the rear too just to bring the rear tires out the same. |

re: Wheel spacer solution - comments?
Thanks for your answer. The wheel studs are long enough. Actually they were too long in the beginning, so I had to cut them down a little. And I cut them slowly with a hand saw, so I didn't destroy the hardening in them.
The rear axle is a stock width Jaguar axle that is wide enough to position the rear wheels correct even with lot of backspacing: ![]() |

sweet, looks nice.
I dont agree with people who say that spacers make the wheel assembly weak. I use em all the time when changing wheels. |

re: Wheel spacer solution - comments?
I've used wheel spacers on my last dune buggy, making about 300 hp without any issues and I wasn't kind to it. If you're making serious power, I wouldn't feel comfortable with spacers at the rear and recommend 5/8" ARP's, Strange or other reputable supplier. I hate it when those nice wheels and tires pass you on the highway or strip....and their yours..

re: Wheel spacer solution - comments?
for even tire wear on the oem stang,, the stock mustang II steering had about a 3.5 backspacing 6" wheel to determine the load on the inside/outside of the tire when cornering....
with your spacer your closer to the correct back spacing...and the correct load on the axle bearings and rim edge for pot holes driving straight..... depending on how you do the alignment....the insides or outsides of the tires will wear quicker "but" your car is so light...they should last for a decent amount of miles.... PM Duece (?),,,,, there are "shimming and mounting" the whole mustang II assembly "tricks" for best of everything on a street rod.... |
