I saw on two different web site pre-cut frame boxing kits for both the front and read of my 49 CHev PU. Unfortunately I did not add sites to my favorites list nor can I track the history past 1 day.
Anyone know who has them available, they were between 50 and 75 for the kit.

I used a Heidts kit which comes with the boxing plates.

This is as much as you need to box these frames for the installation of a Mustang II IFS.

Frame Boxing AD Chevy Pups 47-53

Thks for suggestions! Me thinks the 3/16 boxing as shown by Centerline will work just fine and should not be as much of a P inthe A as I first thought. FYI I finally did find the source for boxing kits, progressive automotive out of Ohio. They were one of the sources for who had MII type II front ends.

My todays search of the salvage yard for a rear end and rear suspension was not too helpfull for my 49 Chv PU work. I found an 80 firebird, but think 79 was the cut off for a simple conversions for a novice like me!

Rear Differential 80 Firebird in 49 AD PU identity help!

The Firebird diff. is difficult for me to ID. I ck'd sites and found codes but none seem to match the numbers on the case. What I found was a large "X"
a cast in number "0240" and a nine dots around what looks like an "8". It is definitely and 8.5 from the shape. However finding a numbr like 2pt, 2po 5po like some of the ID sites say is currently a mystery.

The axle codes are stamped onto the axle shaft tube. You might have to hit it with a wire wheel or brush to make them stand out. Sounds like you are looking at casting numbers which won't tell you much. If you cannot find the codes on the tube you will have to pull the rear cover and find out the numbers on the pinion gear. Dividing them will provide you with your ratio.
